Magnetic Nanoparticles in Polymers |
|
|
|
Certain polymers help to stabilize iron oxide nanoparticles and can
form a magnetic nanoparticle fluid. These unique materials have potential
for impacting several areas of biomedical research and development.
The goals of the current work are to produce iron oxide nanoparticles
inside a polymer, and to understand the magnetic properties of the iron
oxide nanoparticles. Iron oxide has interesting magnetic and electrical
properties when it is at the nanometer size scale. Iron is a biocompatible
element and becomes very stable inside certain polymers. It is believed
that these unique properties offer the potential to develop new biomedical
applications that include delivery of drugs and radiological tracers. |
